About Daniel
I am currently employed as an economist in the civil service, but my first full-time role was as a TEFL teacher in a language academy in Madrid. As far as credentials go, I am TEFL-qualified, I have studied languages for 10+ years, lived abroad for 5+ years and have a Maths teacher for a mother. Having spent so many years grappling with languages, I am patient and deeply empathise with my students. I strive to meet each student's learning goals by tailoring my teaching to ability and individual preferences. From my experience, language learning is so often reduced to verb tables and grammar which discourages students. I prefer a blended approach that uses themes, gamification and assignments that encourage learning and change students' perception of English.

Whether targeting core skills (speaking, reading, listening & writing) or developing reasoning and fluency, my lessons use a mix of exercises, media, games and assignments with the aim of making learning engaging and accessible. After each session, students should feel they have been exposed to new concepts, but equally had the opportunity to practise and reproduce any new content of their own accord. My approach is to teach, practise and contextualise: new material is presented, then practised within the confines of an exercise and finally applied to a real scenario. The content can be dictated by the student (e.g. improving individual skills) or left for me to choose. Here are two examples of a lesson: Beginner lesson: We begin by discussing an image to elicit particular vocabulary followed by exercises that implement them. The lesson would end with a writing task that engages the student's creativity and forces the student to incorporate the new material into an original piece of work. Advanced lesson: We begin by reading and annotating a newspaper article, picking out interesting vocab/structures/phrases and discussing the content of the article. In order to focus on idiomatic fluency, the student plans and delivers a speech/argument/review using new phrases and vocabulary.

I'm always so grateful to Daniel for the enormous difference he made in my GCSE results. Everytime I remember the grade I got, I always think in my head, 'That's thanks to Daniel'. He has a very kind and patient teaching style, but also knows when to push you and challenge you.
I found that before, I felt totally lost and clueless, but after some tutoring sessions with him I actually felt so encouraged and full of hope, that, 'Maybe I can do this'.
I strongly recommend lessons with Daniel if you're looking for a friendly and encouraging personality, and someone who really knows their stuff, (extensive knowledge and intelligence) but also really knows how to teach! (There's just no way you can come away feeling discouraged from a lesson with Daniel).View more recommendations
