About JANELLE
I AM AN AUSTRALIAN TEACHER, WHO HAS WORKED INTERNATIONALLY IN THE PR CHINA, THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, SOUTH KOREA AND VIETNAM. I HAVE BEEN TEACHING FOR 20 YEARS, BOTH INTERNATIONALLY AND IN AUSTRALIA. I AM PARTICULARLY INTERESTED IN TEACHING INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS.

I strive to approach teaching with a growth mindset because of my belief that, effective teaching and learning are interdependent. Whilst teaching, I focus on fostering an inclusive, rigorous and enjoyable learning environment based on integrity, trust and respect. I perceive myself a teacher able to make a valued contribution to learners’ realization of their individual potential, whilst supporting and encouraging a team mindset. Through the provision of scaffolded learning, I articulate my awareness of the individual’s need to build upon what they already know, understand and can do. Thus, through use of the mediational approach to learning and participation, students are supported to appropriate new skills, knowledge and understanding. I have found my approach optimizes opportunities for successful learning outcomes. Students who are encouraged and supported to make a vested interest in their own learning journey and its direction are more likely to make choices leading to personal empowerment and success. In my last full-time teaching position, I supported EAL learners at varying levels of proficiency and in this role, I found the collaborative and co-operative approach between students, teachers, parents, where applicable and administration to be the team relationship most likely to lead to successful individual learner outcomes. As such, the core of my philosophy is this: opportunities for successful learner outcomes are increased when collective responsibility is embraced and solutions shared between all stakeholders.
