About Ingrid
I am a mother of three wonderful children, all of whom have gone through University. After having spent 14 years as a primary school teacher - and some secondary teaching too - starting in England and migrating to Scotland, I became a deputy head teacher for a couple of years. While I learnt a lot being a school leader, I felt I had more to give within the field of teacher education and for five years now I have been lecturing in a range of subjects all relating to teacher education at a Scottish University. I also have a Counselling qualification. The reason for going back to tutoring now is that I want to hone my professional skills and keep my teaching "fresh" and of course, I love meeting new students! I want to empower my students, regardless of age and stage of learning. I always start my lessons with a targeted "hook" to engage and relax my students and to assess how ready they are to learn. This also gives them the opportunity to review their prior learning to build confidence. I use open and hinge questions in my teaching. Wherever possible I use resources that are relevant and purposeful and set clear learning intentions and success criteria so my students can assess their progress and I can ensure we are working at the correct level for them. I am a highly experienced classroom teacher and I have tutored children 1:1 in literacy up to end of Primary school, oracy for all ages, study skills for all ages and stages, business studies for secondary level (SQA level Nat 5 and Higher) and Business and conversational English for adults where English is not their first language.
