• When and why did you develop an interest in your chosen field?

  I began studying anthropology and archaeology after taking an aptitude test in high school. Archaeology blended a lot of my interests and became a bit of a passion for me. I started teaching while in grad school and loved it! I love sharing the writing skills that my disciplines have taught me.

• What makes you passionate about your subject?

  Teaching in general is something I really enjoy because I get to see so much progress. Those improvements (major or minor) are what make me passionate about teaching.

• What do you like about tutoring? What makes you a "Superprof"?

  I love learning from students. I used to think of teaching as really one sided where the instructor is the one giving instruction and feedback, but it is more than that. Teaching students at the high school level and above is so much fun because all students have so much to bring to the table. Some of the discussions that I have had with students about the books they are reading are so thought provoking and interesting!

• Do you have any role models; a teacher that inspired you?

  I had an instructor that focused a lot on building up academic confidence in their students. This made a huge difference for me!

• What are your keys to success?

  1. Be yourself, don't worry about what your peers are doing and the grades they are getting.
  2. Don't use a thesaurus unless you really know what you are doing (I promise it usually does not go well)
  3. Stretch yourself outside of your comfort zone. It is easy to play it safe, but that isn't always the best way to learn.
  4. Have fun!
