About Alesandra

I have been studying Latin for the past eight years—currently pursuing a double bachelor's degree in Classical Studies and English—and I very clearly remember my Latin I class and how daunting it was. Inspiring confidence in students is one of the key elements in helping them to understand and take risks and is what aided me in my first couple of years learning the basics. My success came from meeting consistently with my teachers, asking questions even when I thought I knew the answer, and review. I hope to be a resource for students and be for them what my previous Latin professors have been for me. Throughout my eight years, I have gained an incredible appreciation for language and how it has evolved. I just finished my semester abroad in Rome studying at the Intercollegiate Center for Classical Studies. It was an invaluable opportunity to ground literature in Ancient Roman sites and learn from renowned professors. While every student may not love Latin, there is a lot to be taken from studying it. By understanding the foundation of language and the history behind it, one is able to strengthen reading comprehension and writing skills and also the ability to master any other language.

Latin can be difficult, and as a current Classical Studies major myself, I understand the intricacies of learning the language. By catering to each individual’s strengths and comprehension skills, I aim to build confidence and trust in students’ own abilities and help them grasp all of the moving parts of the Latin language. I also believe it is equally important to understand Latin as a whole, through reading comprehension and history. Using my background as an English major, I will assist students in analyzing the text and not just understanding the mechanics of Latin but also the message and meaning behind the readings.
