About Maggie
I am a recent graduate from Wesleyan University holding a dual degree in Classical Studies and Theater. I read Ancient Greek at an advanced level and am passionate about the study of this language and its literature. I started my journey with Greek just two and a half years ago, and I have not forgotten what it was like to learn the basics! I have experience tutoring my college peers in Greek and generally working with young people ages 10+.

I believe that a strong grammatical approach is the best way to learn Ancient Greek; I strive to help students recognize the systems and patterns that will allow them to become effective readers without any crutches. Studying Greek is an ideal way to learn about your own learning, so I work with students to develop personalized study strategies that allow them to absorb material.
At the beginner level, I am most familiar with the curriculum found in Hansen & Quinn's "Greek: An Intensive Course," but I am willing to work with whatever curriculum or textbook best suits the needs of each student. For intermediate and advanced students, I am able to assist with reading texts by any author, although I am particularly familiar with Plato and Aristophanes.
I see the study of Greek and Classics in general as an opportunity to critically understand not only the past but the present; in my research, teaching, and creative work, I look to the culture of ancient Greece in order to re-examine the values that are taken for granted in my own communities. This kind of study is only deepened through engagement with primary sources in their original language, and I see each new student who I tutor in this language as a new collaborator in this greater investigation.
