About Janani

Hello! I'm a student at New York University majoring in Economics & Neural Science as a part of the honors program. I maintained an A average throughout high school, earning full merit scholarships to NYU and Boston University with selection rates of less than 1%, as well as admission to schools like UChicago and UC Berkeley. I have a passion for the natural and social sciences and take pride in helping students achieve their full potential. I offer tutoring services in English, Social Studies, Biology, Chemistry, ACT Prep, and College Counseling. I have three years of experience as a subject, test prep, and college application tutor, and I'm excited to work with you!

Working with students is one of my singular passions. I had a great deal of support during my high school career, and that was the reason I was able to maintain a high standard of success, both academically and extracurricularly. Giving other students the opportunity to do the same while being a part of their academic journey is one of the most fulfilling things I've done. The best part of the job, however, is always getting to know the student on an individual level. A tutor, I've found, is so much more than just academic scaffolding. They become an integral part of a student's support system over time. I find immense fulfillment in knowing I'm making a positive impact on a student's life.

I started teaching within a peer tutoring program at my middle school, which I continued to participate in for most of high school. I then helped run the speech & debate program at my high school, teaching research, writing, and public speaking.

I graduated from high school with an A average, and attend New York University on a merit scholarship in the honors program, which puts me in the top 10% of my class. I've tutored high school students in English, Social Studies, and Biology for the past three years, and ACT Prep and College Admissions for the past year.

The first step is to set up an initial consultation to gauge the needs and ability of the student. From there, we agree on a time to meet that fits regularly into both our schedules. If the student has any questions throughout the week, I am more than happy to reply via email or text.

I work almost exclusively with high school students, and have some experience teaching students who are neurotypical and those who have disorders that make learning slow or difficult (e.g. ADHD, anxiety).

More important than anything else is how invested a teacher is in a student's success. Experience is important, but never replaces engagement. I'd also advise getting a tutor as close to the student's age as possible. Relatability and ease of communication are vital to efficient learning.
