About Christian
I'm a graduate of the Syracuse University English Program. I have a Bachelors, but more importantly, I really enjoy teaching. English stands out from other subjects because it is about discussion. I love the discussion and hearing what students have to say. I can then help students communicate their ideas effectively in any mode of writing. Teaching analytical skills and encouraging creativity which leads to success.

I don't have a script. I have a curiosity about the student in front of me.
Every student comes with different experiences, strengths, interests, and ways of thinking. We identify a clear goal for the lesson, then personalize the tools and approach to help you reach it in your own way. My goal isn't to make every student think like me. It is about helping the student reach their potential in a literary setting and pushing thinking forward.
I don't believe there is always a single "right" answer, and I don't teach students how to simply write what they think a teacher wants to hear. You could be writing an essay, analyzing literature, improving reading comprehension, or developing a piece of creative writing, but I want to get you to a point where your thoughts get noticed.
Together, we will understand why a piece of writing works (or doesn’t), learn how to ask better questions, develop your own opinions, and challenge the assumptions behind them so you can form stronger arguments.
Where there’s confusion is where learning starts. We'll identify what you already understand, find the specific gap, and work on the tool or concept that will help you move forward.
I often use an "I do, we do, you do" approach: I demonstrate the thinking, we work through it together, and then you take the lead. The goal is for you to become increasingly independent, not increasingly dependent on your tutor.
I combine academic English and literary analysis with creative writing. In writing and facilitating workshops, I've learned that strong writing isn't just about following rules. It's about making choices, understanding your audience, investigating an idea, and developing a perspective that feels like your own. I'm here to strengthen your thinking, not replace it.
I've worked with students from middle school through adulthood, including people who dislike writing, aspiring writers, and people who never considered themselves writers or thought writing was for them. You don't need to already think of yourself as a writer to benefit from these lessons.
When you leave a lesson, you don’t just leave with polished work, but an understanding of how and why you got there. You should leave with opinions you can express with confidence, examine critically, and defend with authority.
