About Joshua
Everybody takes in information differently, so I always aim to mold my approach to play to the student's strengths. Learning isn't always just hard work, and letting the student inform the lesson structure makes receiving and retaining information easier and more efficient.
While I studied Physics, Math, and Engineering in college - Many of the Math courses I took were extracurricular, but my degree is Physics. - my career, however, was in writing and editing for a gaming site. Over the course of almost a decade, I personally trained over 50 writers and editors. It's always gratifying to see a decent writer grow to be remarkable.
I graduated NCSU cum laude, with a BS in Physics, and extraneous credits from over a dozen extracurricular math and physics courses.
Professionally, by happenstance, after my employer was bought out, I shifted from Customer Support to Editorial, acting as News Manager. Within two years, I had been promoted to Editor in Chief, overseeing the entire Editorial department. I learned that, to be an excellent writer, you don't need to have a knack for it, as long as you want it enough to try.
I studied math, physics, and engineering extensively, while I was earning my BS in Physics. I enjoyed my studies so much that I took over a dozen extra-curricular math and physics courses. I worked in Editorial for a gaming news site, training dozens of writers over nearly a decade.

I think it's most important to identify how the student best absorbs information, and tailor the process to their learning style. This allows more efficient learning, and maximizes the student's benefit for each session.
Once that's established, it's my primary goal to help students understand the foundation of the subject, answering the oft overlooked question; "Why?" If a student can answer the whys of a subject, be it Spacetime Physics or Technical Writing, they're unlikely to need tutoring anymore!
Don't be afraid to find new tutors, if your first pick isn't a good fit. It can be hard to find the right instructor, but you'll see the difference it makes immediately.
