About Ray

I began my career in Jackson, TN as a church music director and music teacher before relocating to Nashville where I worked for over 25 years as a professional studio vocalist and music producer. I bring that professional experience into all my lessons.

I am a classically trained singer myself with a bachelors degree in vocal performance. My recordings have been heard on national TV and radio ads, produced and sung on top ten records, toured internationally and sung on the Grand Ole Opry. I also received an Emmy nomination for original theme music on The Today Show on NBC.

I know what it's like to be coached and I know how to teach singers, both beginner and professional, to use proper vocal technique, to master breath control, to expand their vocal range and to bulid the confidence it takes to perform at their best. If you want to make it onto The Voice, sing at church or sing in a band, I can get you there.

I enjoy watching singers grow as people as they learn to use their talent and learn to do the thing that they love. I love helping a singer get good enough at performing that it's fun for them to sing in front of an audience. That's the goal: feeling good about what you do because you're good at what you do!

I have a Bachelors Degree in Vocal Performance from Lambuth College, now the University of Memphis at Lambuth. I have been a professional studio singer and music producer in Nashville, TN for over 20 years .

About the lesson

I begin with a free phone consultation to discuss a student's experience and goals. Together we will decide on how to proceed and what each of us need to do to prepare for our first lesson. At our first lesson, we will begin with some warm ups and then start working on the songs we discussed during our consult. You'll leave with recommendations for a practice schedule and with specific things to focus on with both your voice and your songs. The next lesson picks up from there buliding your technique and your song repertoire at the same time.

Beginners as young as age 10 to seasoned professionals.
