About Rabia
I am Rabia, a university lecturer and qualified English teacher based in New Malden, with more than five years of experience preparing students for IELTS, university study, and professional life in the UK. My work sits at the intersection of language teaching, academic practice, and student support, and I bring that full perspective into every lesson I deliver.
I currently lecture on the Foundation Year programme at Arden University, where I teach academic writing, study skills, and English for university success. Before Arden, I taught at Kingston University International Study Centre and the University of Liverpool International College, both of which prepare international students for degree study at leading UK universities. Earlier in my career, I lectured at universities in Pakistan, giving me a deep understanding of the challenges learners face when transitioning between education systems and languages.
My qualifications reflect a long term commitment to teaching at the highest professional standard. I hold Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA), which recognises excellence in university teaching, along with a Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice (PGCAP), a Trinity CertTESOL, an MA in Education, and an MPhil in English Literature.
What sets my tutoring apart is that I combine the rigour of a university lecturer with the warmth of a personal tutor. I understand exam pressure, self doubt, and the frustration of feeling stuck at the same score for months. I also understand what genuine progress looks like, and how to guide you there step by step. My students consistently tell me they leave lessons feeling clearer, calmer, and more in control of their learning.

Every student learns differently, which is why my lessons are never one size fits all. Before we begin, we have a short diagnostic session so I can understand exactly where you are, where you want to be, and what has held you back before. From there, I design a personalised plan that targets the areas most likely to move your score, grade, or confidence quickly.
How I teach
For IELTS candidates, I use authentic exam materials, timed practice, and detailed feedback against the official band descriptors, which I explain in plain language so you finally understand what examiners reward. For academic English learners, I focus on essay structure, argumentation, referencing, and critical reading. For all students, every lesson combines real practice with honest feedback and clear next steps, so you always know what your progress looks like.
Lesson lengths
Standard lessons run for 60 minutes, which suits most learners working towards steady, consistent improvement. I also offer 90 minute sessions for intensive IELTS preparation and dissertation coaching, along with shorter 30 minute slots for learners who want extra speaking practice between their main lessons. You receive lesson notes, follow up materials, and structured homework after every session.
Who I teach
My lessons are designed for IELTS Academic and General Training candidates, adults preparing for migration or work visas, teenagers preparing for university entry, undergraduate and postgraduate students needing academic English or dissertation support, and working professionals wanting stronger writing and speaking skills. I welcome learners at all levels from pre intermediate through to advanced, and I adapt my approach to match your background and goals.
