About Claire

Hello! My name is Claire and I have a first class degree from the University of Edinburgh where I studied Sociology and Social Anthropology (MA Hons). In September, I will start my Masters degree in Migration Policy at London School of Economics. I am from Glasgow, and I am currently based tin Madrid, working part-time as a teaching assistant in a primary school and as an online tutor which I have been doing for four years now. My degree entailed seeking to understand the social world and how humans move through it in alternating ways. I think this has given me a unique, open-minded perspective which I bring to my teaching by making sure my lessons are truly tailored to how a particular student understands their own world and therefore how they learn. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring as I believe it is immensely satisfying, and it is a great way to interact with people from all walks of life.

About the lesson

My lessons last 55 minutes and are engaging and tailored to my specific student's needs. For English as a foreign language lessons, I like to create a comfortable environment in which students feel they can make mistakes as they practise a new language. For school qualifications in English (National 5/Higher/GCSE + university/school entrance exams), past papers and exam techniques are the main focus, as well as encouraging an interest in the subject. For proofreading/advising essay writing and dissertations, I like to incentivise students to think outside of the box so that not only am I correcting grammar and sentence structure, but I am also providing the student with a deep understanding of their subject so that they can work independently and confidently in the future.

10/10 tutoring experience. Claire is super friendly and accommodating. She helped me with my Sociology GCSE. Through our tutoring sessions, she helped me synthesize information and knowledge into well-structured answers that got more marks than I had previously received. I would recommend Claire as a tutor.

I had French lessons with Claire for over a year and I saw a massive improvement in my language skills. In fact, I was able to achieve an A grade in my Higher French school exam. I found the way Claire explained things to be both engaging and clear. I would highly recommend Claire as a tutor to anyone who seeks a positive and productive learning environment.

Claire was a tutor for my son whilst he was studying towards his National 5 and Higher French. She provided detailed lessons and really targeted specific areas of the syllabus which my son found more challenging. Her preparation in the lead up to exams and availability to increase the amount of lessons, really built my sons confidence and made sure he knew what to expect going into his exams. I would highly recommend Claire as a French tutor, not only for her kind and gentle nature, but also for her dedication and own desire to see her students succeed.
