About Rachel
I have experience in tutoring elementary, college, and middle-aged adult individuals so I can adapt my sessions to be effective and enjoyable for any age. I will serve as a guide and mentor in the writing process, but you will maintain creative autonomy over every piece. I will not write papers for you, I will simply equip you with the skills and knowledge to write affective and compelling pieces on your own. I love developing a rapport with my clients, and developing a positive relationship while maintaining professionalism is very important to me. I will celebrate your success with you, and if the feedback from teachers and professors is less than desirable I will be there to encourage you and give you effective tips on how to improve next time.

My lessons start with reviewing the assignment and establishing what stage of the writing process you are in. If you are in the pre-writing process we will start by brainstorming ideas together and working in tandem to do appropriate research if necessary. If you are in the drafting or editing process you will read your piece thus far aloud to me while I take notes on it’s structure, effectiveness, flow, concision, and comprehension. Reading aloud provides an opportunity for the student to see and hear errors and areas of improvement independently. We will then review my notes together and work to improve the piece in the areas listed above. Students will receive a copy of my notes at the end of the session to refer back to if they would like to edit on their own outside of the session. Final edits will focus on grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors. Each paper from start to finish can be broken into as many or as few sessions as you see fit.
