About Laura

I am a certified teacher in Manitoba and Saskatchewan with over 20 years of experience teaching students of all ages.

I specialize in English Language Arts, including reading comprehension, writing, grammar, spelling, and literary analysis for students from Kindergarten to Grade 12.

My experience includes teaching foundational literacy using approaches such as Animated Literacy, phonics, and sight-word recognition, as well as helping older students strengthen their writing, develop arguments, and analyze literature.

I believe reading and writing should be engaging, and I adapt my teaching strategies to each student's needs, abilities, and interests.

About the lesson

Every student learns differently. By identifying your child's current skills, understanding what they're working on at school, and recognizing where they're struggling, I can develop strategies to help them improve their reading, writing, spelling, grammar, and comprehension.

The first lesson may feel a little eclectic. That's intentional! I use it to get a broad picture of how your child reads, writes, understands, and communicates, while also exploring the specific concerns you've raised. From there, lessons become more targeted and focused on the skills your child needs to develop.

We can work with assignments and materials from school or explore topics and activities based on your child's interests. My goal is to make learning engaging while helping students build the skills and confidence they need to succeed.

Please note that in-person lessons are only available on the weekends.
Online sessions can be booked Monday through Thursday.

The free 30 minute session is online only and designed to allow you to ask me questions, have a little meet and greet prior to starting the first lesson, and to make a longer term plan.
Please note, I will wait 5 minutes past the start time. If you do not communicate or show up within that 5 minute timeframe, the session will be cancelled
