About Jaco
Hello everyone - I am qualified in law with two degrees – one from the University of South Africa and one from Leiden University in the Netherlands. I will soon start with a PhD, so it is great for me to be able to teach online while studying. I also have a 120 Hour TEFL certificate. My teaching approach is very much about making the class relatable to the student. So I like to spend time talking about what is happening in the student’s life, at school, at work, about hobbies, sports and social life. I do this, because I believe it is much easier to learn a language when you recognise it in your own life. I like to tailor my classes to adapt to the needs of every student, because we all learn differently. Whatever your reason for wanting to learn English, in my class you are going to have fun while you learn. So I hope to see you in my class very soon. I have some 19 years of training experience in the corporate world. In 2018 I completed my TEFL qualification to enter the world of online tutoring. I am a listener and corrector. While I do like the sound of my own voice, the talking I do in class is all about getting the student to talk, share and engage, while I correct pronunciation, suggest better words, discuss meaning of written texts and explain the many quirks of the English language. I also like to throw in song lyrics, quotes from famous people, and poetry, so that the student can gain a deeper understanding of the language.
