About Chuck

I grew up in the United States and moved to New Zealand last year. One of the things I wanted to do after moving to my new country was find a way to help other immigrants learn and improve their English. While I was in college, I worked as a writing tutor and had the opportunity to work with many ESOL students. I really enjoyed helping them develop their English writing skills, and I found it incredibly rewarding to see their confidence grow. When I’m not volunteering, I love traveling and exploring my new home in New Zealand. I enjoy camping, hiking, and fly fishing, as well as discovering the arts. I especially enjoy attending live events, including music, poetry, and performance art. Most of all, I love meeting new people and hearing about their lives, experiences, and perspectives. I look forward to getting to know the people I meet and learning from them as much as I hope to help them.

About the lesson

I like to start by getting to know the learner and assessing their current level of English proficiency. I also ask them which areas they would most like to work on, whether that’s conversation, writing, reading, pronunciation, or building their overall confidence in English. From there, I tailor our lessons to their individual needs and goals. I want each learner to feel comfortable and supported while making steady progress toward the areas of English they find most important.
