About Anisa
Hello! I’m a passionate and highly qualified secondary English teacher with a genuine love for helping students unlock the power of language and literature. With a BA in English Literature and Philosophy, I bring a deep understanding of my subject, paired with a commitment to making learning engaging, relevant, and rewarding for an international student body.
My teaching journey began in the UK through the highly regarded Teach First program, where I trained in diverse and high-achieving school environments. This experience shaped my inclusive, student-centered approach and led me to pursue a Master’s in Education. I have also completed an MSc in Child Development, further strengthening my ability to support students’ academic and personal growth across a wide range of cultural and educational contexts.
I am currently teaching in a premium international school in Dubai, where I deliver the British curriculum to a diverse cohort of students. Rated as an Outstanding Teacher by both Ofsted and my employers, I am known for my creativity, patience, and strong subject knowledge. I have extensive experience teaching students from Year 7 to Year 13, including Key Stage 3, IGCSE/GCSE, and A-Level, and I have a clear understanding of the expectations required for success in these qualifications.
Having taught in inner-city schools in both the North of England and London, and most recently in Dubai, I bring a wealth of experience working with diverse learners, including students for whom English is an additional language (EAL)—a key feature of many classrooms in the UAE. I adapt my teaching to ensure clarity, accessibility, and appropriate challenge for all learners.
In addition to classroom teaching, I have significant experience training new teachers and supporting their professional development. I have also worked closely with exam boards as a marker, giving me valuable insight into grading standards, examiner expectations, and effective exam techniques. This enables me to guide students strategically so they can maximize their performance.
I also specialize in supporting students with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND). I have successfully helped students achieve GCSE, IGCSE, and Functional Skills qualifications by tailoring lessons to their individual needs and building their confidence and independence.
Alongside my school-based roles, I have been privately tutoring for over 10 years, including working with international students. My students consistently meet or exceed expected progress, and I pride myself on building strong relationships that support both academic achievement and personal growth.
For me, teaching English goes beyond analyzing texts—it’s about developing critical thinkers. I encourage students to become “detectives” of literature: forming interpretations, exploring context, and supporting ideas with evidence. This approach not only prepares them for exams but equips them with lifelong analytical and communication skills.
