About Katherine

I'm a former speech pathologist with a Master's degree in Speech Pathology from the University of Melbourne. I bring 5 years of specialist experience working as a speech pathologist specialising in primary and high school literacy and language remediation. Currently offering limited evening hours as a literacy and language tutor.

I work with students Prep - Year 12 who are struggling with reading, writing, or language skills or just needing some 1:1 support to make sure they stay on track. My focus is on helping students of all ages to build confidence and skills to excel at school.

I'm particularly passionate about:
- Language and vocabulary development
- Literacy development (including for students with dyslexia)
- Study skills and exam preparation for secondary students (including providing supportive tools and structures to support success)

About the lesson

I start by getting to know where your child's at, through a chat with you about what you're hoping to achieve and doing some informal reading/writing tasks or conversation with your child. From there, I use proven, evidence-based methods for learning grounded in speech pathology and specialist literacy training.

Every session is tailored to your child's needs, interests, and pace. Depending on what they need, this might include structured phonics activities, interactive games, decodable text reading and activities, or writing and drawing tasks. I track progress after each session and send you brief notes, so we can adjust our goals as we go. I'll also suggest small, doable practice activities for home, because honestly, that's where a lot of the magic happens.

Sessions: 45 minutes online via Google Meet + 15 minutes post-session notes/homework. Progress notes and home practice recommendations are included.
