About Melissa
I am a certified educator with a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Gifted Education and years of experience teaching and supporting upper elementary and middle school learners. Throughout my career, I have worked with a wide range of students, from those who need extra support to those who thrive on enrichment and academic challenge. My professional background allows me to quickly identify learning gaps, strengthen skills, and build students’ confidence in their abilities.
I pride myself on being dependable, prepared, and highly responsive to each student’s needs. I maintain clear communication, set achievable goals, and provide structured guidance so families always know how progress is being made. I hold high expectations while creating a supportive environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, taking risks, and growing academically.
Families can feel confident that sessions with me are purposeful, organized, and tailored to help each learner succeed.

My approach as a tutor is student-centered, strengths-based, and highly personalized. I believe students learn best when they feel confident, challenged, and supported, so I tailor every session to meet individual learning styles, interests, and goals. I use research-based instructional strategies such as guided practice, modeling, questioning techniques, and scaffolded support to help students build independence and deep understanding rather than simply memorizing answers.
A typical lesson with me begins with a quick check-in and review to assess prior understanding, followed by targeted instruction focused on a specific skill or concept. We then practice together using engaging, interactive activities before transitioning to independent application. I close each session with reflection, feedback, and clear next steps so students leave feeling successful and motivated.
What sets me apart as a tutor is my extensive classroom experience, gifted education specialization, and ability to differentiate instruction on the spot. I excel at breaking down complex ideas into manageable steps, encouraging critical thinking, and helping students develop confidence, organization, and strong academic habits. My sessions are structured yet warm, supportive, and encouraging.
My lessons are ideal for upper elementary and middle school students (Grades 4–8) who need support or enrichment in reading, writing, language arts, and social studies. I work especially well with advanced learners, students who need academic confidence building, and those who benefit from individualized pacing and enrichment challenges.
