I am currently pursuing my graduation at IIT Madras, and I believe there's an essential subject that every student must master for effective global communication: English. While IIT students excellenty teach in various fields of science and mathematics, few focus on teaching English, even though it is the key medium for communication in today’s interconnected world. English is not just another academic subject—it has become a universal language and a vital tool for learning, sharing ideas, and connecting with people worldwide.
In today's digital age, where the internet and technology transcend borders, proficiency in English is crucial for personal and professional growth. Yet, despite its importance, many students overlook the need to develop strong English language skills, which can be as vital as technical expertise in their fields. English proficiency opens up opportunities for collaboration, learning, and career advancement on a global scale.
