About Natasha

“I am a positive person who has an enthusiastic outlook on life. I love my job and I get a great sense of achievement from seeing my students develop and grow as individuals.

If I can have a positive impact on their future, I feel I am doing my job well. I am an effective communicator, both in writing and verbally and I have a strong ability to plan and organise effectively; something which is crucial to the role of a competent teacher.

I cope very well with pressure and can adapt my style or teaching methods, when needed, to deliver consistent results. I have an understanding of the bigger picture and the pressures that are placed on the school.

I am someone who always implements effective behaviour management processes in the classroom and strive myself on an ability to continually develop both personally and professionally.”

"At the start of each meeting, I ask the student how they're feeling, like if they're tired or excited about something going on in their life. This helps me better prepare for any distractions or a slow lesson, and I think this also lets them know that I care about their well-being and not just that they're at the lesson. Then, I ask how if they had any wins since we last met. I find that starting with this positivity helps both of us focus on the good, which often makes for a more productive session.

I then go over the agenda for the session so that they know what to expect. I also typically give them a brief quiz to go over the previous sessions' topics and see what they remember and or where they may need additional work. After the review, I try to connect how those previous topics relate to what we're going over in the current session. I go through the lesson, which typically involves the student reading material aloud and discussing the prompts with me. Finally, I leave at least five minutes at the end of the session for any additional questions about the material."
"Working with high school students can be a challenge, especially if we're meeting to help them bring up low grades. One thing I do when I meet the student for the very first time is to ask them questions about their interests, like sports, school subjects, music and movies. In the math problems that I create, I incorporate references to these interests.

For example, a question may be to find out how many points they need to score in a basketball game to win or feature their favorite celebrity buying too many groceries. It gets their attention and makes them laugh, helping me build a good rapport with them and keep them interested in the material."
