About Rosie

I am a Fashion Design graduate of Central Saint Martins, where I achieved a first class degree. I have industry experience from interning at JW Anderson in London and Mazarine in Paris as well as working as a hand-painter at Alexander McQueen. As a UAL Short Course Fashion Tutor working on summer schools at CSM, I teach print development, life drawing and fashion illustration. I also am a trained Talitha Arts Practitioner, hosting therapeutic arts workshops across London for vulnerable adults and children. I am currently the founder and creative director of Three Tables, a sustainable backdrop and fashion brand due to launch in Autumn 2024; and, co-founder of The Gathering Table, a natural dye and fabric paint studio, where we grow and create natural colours for the fashion industry. Before studying and working in fashion, I completed a Law degree, worked as a language teacher and spent time at various charities. I have a wealth of teaching experience as a fashion and art tutor, supporting students in their successful applications to fashion and art colleges, BA and MA programmes in the UK; helping current college & BA students achieve higher grades; and, guiding hobbyists in acquiring new skills. When I'm not in the studio, I enjoy horse riding and creating cakes under my cake brand, The Fourth Table.

  • 1) When did you start practicing? How did this passion find you?

I have always been drawn to art but it was whilst studying Law that I became interested in fashion. The medium of fashion opened up a new world of self-expression. The ability to create a narrative, a world, a three dimensional vision capable of inciting heightened reaction was suddenly revealed. I decided that once I graduated from Law, I would pursue studying fashion at Central Saint Martins.
  • 2) Which artists or works affect you the most?

Painters such as Marleen Dumas, Mark Rothko, Egon Schiele for their line and colour sensibility. Designers such as Hussein Chalayan, Too Good and Cawley Studio for their conceptual collections and traditional craft. Marrying function, intellectual meaning, aesthetic appeal and heritage craft, whilst underpinning all with sustainable principles, is the height of design.
  • 3) What are the qualities and skills required to succeed in this area?

An enquiring mind is the first step; being interested in the world around you and wanting to create something in response to it, is the next. The desire to learn new approaches and techniques, to explore materials is essential. To notice and really see things, details, colours, to have your eyes open always and everywhere. To really understand yourself and why you're creating in the first place. This drive to find out who you are as an artist and designer is the most important.
  • 4) What is the most valuable advice you can give to help someone stay focused on creative projects?

Creativity and inspiration doesn't arrive in an orderly way! Multiple ideas shoot off at tangents from each other and it can be challenging to know where to start, what to focus on. The ability to approach ideas with bravery and not be deterred by work that hasn't turned out how you imagined, is key! Keep working, keep working, keep working - this is the best advice for any artist.
  • 5) How would you describe your passion; how does it make you feel?

To create is to explore the world around you, your response to it and your place in it. I am passionate about my personal practice and passionate about guiding my students on their own creative paths. Being able to instil confidence in my students and witness them and their work blossom, is wonderful.
  • 6) What creative achievements are you particularly proud of?

That I can work creatively whilst staying aligned with my beliefs. I'm proud of not giving up on long-held goals, to stand firm with them and not be swayed by outside pressure. Beyond this, I'm pleased to have taken part in various exhibitions, catwalks and had works published.
  • 7) Have you ever been surprised by a student; by their ability or quick progression?

Yes, by many! But one student in particular does come to mind. He started working with me having barely held a pencil and within a few months had created an impressive portfolio for university application. He managed to achieve such progression in this short period of time due to his work ethic - he worked, worked, worked and constantly strove to improve himself. He listened to every piece of advice and implemented it. This, coupled with a strong belief in himself, his work and his pure determination to improve, meant that he did just that.
  • 8) Being a Superprof is an art! What is your secret?

I thoroughly and genuinely enjoy getting to know and working with my students! I create an inviting environment where students feel safe to ask questions, to express themselves and to explore their ideas!
