About Jazzlyn Xyra

English is the skill that compounds.

Can't read critically = you fall for fake citations. Can't write clearly = you can't sell your idea, get a job, or defend yourself. But if they can read, write, and speak well? That's the cheat code. Everything else gets easier.

I'm not here to make you love Shakespeare. I'm here so no one can talk over you, so you can write the email that gets you hired, so you can tell your story without shrinking it.

I'm not teaching English. I'm teaching you how to hold your ground in a world that demands they be made of stone. That's worth showing up for.

English

Because my English class isn’t just grammar drills. It’s where they learn to think, push back, and not get steamrolled.

Here’s why they should show up:

**1. Language = power they can actually use** “tears aren’t weakness, listening is courage”. That’s English in real life. It’s the tool they use to argue, negotiate, ask for help, call out BS. Without it, they’re stuck nodding along while other people decide things for them.

You live in slang, memes, TikTok cuts. My research is literally on how internet slang hits teaching. So I'm not dragging them into “old formal English” for no reason. I'm teaching them code-switching - when to drop “lowkey” in a group chat vs. when to write a college essay that gets them a scholarship. That’s survival.

**3. I model the thing I want them to become**
“true power lies in the quiet steadying of a hand”. Kids don’t need another loud voice. They need someone who’s steady, who listens, who shows that being kind *and* sharp is possible. That’s what they remember 10 years later, not the past perfect tense.
