About Elliott

Hi there!

I’m Elliott Harrison, an experienced drum and percussion instructor with a diverse educational background and a passion for teaching. I speak English and French fluently.

I hold a bachelor’s degree from McGill University, two master’s degrees in percussion performance and pedagogy from the Hochschule für Musik in Basel, and an advanced master's in contemporary music from the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. In 2022, I was awarded the prestigious Fritz Gerber Award by the Lucerne Festival.

I am looking forward to meeting you and working together to achieve your personal musical goals.

About the lesson

I am a flexible, open-minded performer and teacher, experienced in classical and contemporary percussion music, as well as rock, breakbeat, funk, jazz, and metal on the drum set. My approach emphasizes technique, music reading and comprehension, improvisation, and musicality. I believe in tailoring lessons to each student's needs and interests to foster a love for music and encourage continuous growth.

Lesson Plan:

1. Warmup and Technique: We begin with exercises to improve hand and foot coordination, speed, and accuracy.
2. Application of Rudiments: We apply these fundamental patterns around the drum set to develop fluidity and control.
3. Learning a New Groove, Beat, or Song: We introduce a new piece or style, breaking it down into manageable parts.
4. Playing Together and Improvisation: We play the new material together, experimenting with different improvisations and fills to enhance creativity.
5. Conclusion: We review what we’ve learned and set goals for practice before the next lesson.
