About Joseph
My name is Joseph Orisakwe, and I’m passionate about teaching the Igbo language — not just as a subject, but as a living, breathing part of who we are. I grew up speaking Igbo, surrounded by the richness of its proverbs, stories, music, and deep cultural values. But over time, I noticed something troubling: fewer young people, especially those in the diaspora or urban areas, could speak or understand Igbo confidently. Some were even ashamed to try. That’s when I made a choice — to be part of the solution. I chose to teach Igbo because I believe language is identity. It connects us to our roots, our history, and to one another. By teaching, I’m not just helping students learn to communicate — I’m helping them reclaim a part of themselves. Over the years, I’ve worked with learners of all levels — children, adults, total beginners, and heritage learners — and I've seen the transformation that comes when someone finally says: "I can speak my language."
